Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
